"Seen from elsewhere" #3: Louis Ferdinand Céline / Will Self

Friday 29 May   |   18h30   |   90 min   |   Seen from elsewhere   |   Les Subsistances - Verrière
With: Will Self
Hosted by : Thomas Wieder
« Celine, mostly recognised as a stylist and a chronicler of the absurd, has - in my view - one of the best claims to being a writer of place, and the disintegration of place through mass transit and communication in the 20th century. Widely travelled, he had two extended periods in England, the former - as a schoolboy - he wrote about in Mort à credit, the latter - during which he was employed in the passport office in London - he utilises for Guignol's band and Le Pont de Londres. I will be examining Celine's psychogeography and proposing him as the great - missing - literary link between England and France. »
